Bethesda Lutheran was organized December 12, 1900 by Rev. P. L. C. Hansen from Bethany Lutheran in Portland, Oregon. In 1901 the first church was built on three acres of land on Danebo Avenue. In 1908 it was moved to its present location. A large basement was added to the building in 1922. A new church, parsonage, parsonage and a six acre Memorial Park were completed between 1940 and 1949. Emmaus Danish Evangelical Lutheran Congregation was organized in 1915 largely by members of the Bethesda group who lived in the city of Eugene and experienced difficulty in attending services some miles out in the country.
